Google wins U.K. injunction to prevent enforcement of Russian judgments

Google has won an injunction from the High Court in London to prevent the enforcement of Russian judgments against it after it blocked various Google and YouTube accounts controlled or owned by sanctioned individuals. Google sought protection in the U.K. and the U.S. courts last year to stop enforcement of Russian fines. Judge Andrew Henshaw granted the U.S. tech giant a permanent anti-enforcement injunction on the basis that Google and YouTube’s terms and conditions required disputes to be brought to court in England. Reuters reports that Henshaw also noted in a written ruling that Google Russia’s liquidator had estimated the total of some of the fines faced by the company amounted to 20tn times the GDP of the whole world.
