Sheryl Sandberg, former chief operating officer at Meta Platforms, has been sanctioned by judge Vice Chancellor Travis Laster, of Delaware Chancery Court, for deleting messages that were likely relevant to a shareholder lawsuit. Laster wrote: “Because Sandberg selectively deleted items from her Gmail account, it is likely that the most sensitive and probative exchanges are gone.” The case in question was brought in 2018 after Facebook was revealed to have allowed user data to be accessed by political consulting firm Cambridge Analytica. Judge Laster had refused to dismiss the lawsuit in 2023, describing it as a “case involving alleged wrongdoing on a truly colossal scale.”
