Amazon workers at a North Carolina warehouse have voted against unionization, with 2,447 opposing and 829 in favor. The vote was seen as crucial in what was a potential second unionization attempt at Amazon in the U.S. The company has consistently argued that a direct relationship with employees is more beneficial than organized labor. Union organizers said in a statement that the vote was the result of Amazon’s “relentless and illegal effort to intimidate” workers. “[The] result is not a surprise,” said John Logan, a San Francisco State University professor of labor and employment studies. “The odds are massively against any group of workers trying to form a union at Amazon,” he said in reference to the company’s campaigns of anti-union messaging, among other tactics.
