Bank of America settles Epstein accusers’ lawsuit

Bank of America has reached a settlement in a civil lawsuit filed by a woman who accused the bank of facilitating her sexual abuse by Jeffrey Epstein. The lawsuit claimed that the bank ignored suspicious transactions related to Epstein, prioritizing profit over victim protection. U.S. District Judge Jed Rakoff previously ruled that the bank must address the allegations of benefiting from Epstein’s sex trafficking and obstructing the federal Trafficking Victims Protection Act. The settlement, pending Rakoff’s approval, will prevent a scheduled deposition of Leon Black, co-founder of Apollo Global Management, who was linked to Epstein through significant payments. The woman’s lawyers have also sued other alleged enablers of Epstein’s sex trafficking, and in 2023 reached ?settlements of $290m with JPMorgan Chase and $75m with Deutsche Bank on behalf of his accusers.
