Sen. Jim Justice (R–WV) and his wife, Cathy, have agreed to pay more than $5m in long-overdue federal income taxes dating back to 2009, just hours after the Justice Department sued them on behalf of the IRS for repeatedly failing to pay despite multiple collection attempts. According to the settlement, which is still awaiting a judge’s approval, the couple owes $5,164,739.75 plus interest and additional charges. A spokesperson and attorneys for Justice declined to comment. This latest development follows other recent tax issues for the family, including a $1.36m lien placed last month on the Greenbrier Hotel, which the Justice family owns.
