Shake Shack faces child labor fines

Shake Shack has reached a settlement with Attorney General Andrea Campbell over child labor violations, resulting in a fine of $244,500. The fast food chain failed to obtain work permits for minors and scheduled them to work beyond legal limits, affecting over 200 employees across 12 locations in Massachusetts. According to Campbell, “Our child labor laws protect vulnerable young people as they embark on jobs to learn skills.” Half of the fine will cover penalties, while the other half will support a state fund for educating and enforcing employment laws. The investigation was prompted by a complaint regarding the Woburn location, which was found to be scheduling minors past the legal hour limits.
